20 years of Miami's Masis Bolivian Cultural Center

Los Masis (Bolivia) and Andean dancers in Miami

Los Masis, a Renowned Bolivian folk music group, offered a concert to celebrate 20 years of the 'Masis Cultural Center' in Miami on July13th, 2013.

Nilda and Grover Heredia, inspired by this Bolivian group decided to promote traditional Andean culture after they moved to Miami. Nilda taught a variety of dances from the Andean area (Peruvian, Bolivian, Chilean and Ecuadorian) to Miami kids and teenagers through these two decades. Twenty years later, Miami's Masis Cultural center can count more than 200 former students, some of them became professional dancers.

Nilda Heredia receives greetings from her former students.

25 years of the Coracora cultural and religious presence in florida

On August 4th, the Peruvian community of South Florida celebrated the Festivity of 'Virgen de las Nieves' patroness and guardian of the people of the town of Coracora, located in the region of Ayacucho (Southern Andes).

The festivity started with a mass celebrated by Msgr. Lorenzo León followed by a procession. Peruvian traditional dances were also performed and Peruvian food was served. This is  the 25th years where the celebration is organized in South Florida.

This is Catholic devotion that dates back to the16th century in the Andes. According to one of the participants, "where there is a Coracora citizen in the world, there is a heart bitting for the 'Virgen de las Nieves').

We are pleased to launch an initiative to promote the expose of Quechua in public spaces. Many Peruvian Restaurants in Miami have become our partners by posting signs we created. They are in Quechua and English. We are still looking for more Andean places (Bolivian, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, etc) to post them.
